Merida, Venezuela and the Andes Mountains

Photos of places around Merida, Venezuela

A trip to Merida wouldn't be complete without a ride on the "Teleferico", the world's longest and highest cable car. It runs from Merida, at an elevation of 4915 feet to the highest stop at 15,633 feet. There are four stops along the way, counting the last. It takes 12 minutes each for the first two spans, then 10 minutes more to the third stop, followed by another 14 minutes to reach the last and highest station. At that point, you're well above cloud level with spectacular views of the valley below.

From the third stop of the teleferico you can hike to the village of Los Nevados, a quaint little village in the Andes Mountains. The hike to Los Nevados isn't particularly difficult, but it's a bit harder than most people expect because of the altitude. Spending a couple of days in Merida, or better yet the mountains around and above Merida will help you become acclimated to the altitude of the trail to Los Nevados.

I hope you enjoy my photos of Merida, Venezuela.
